Fret Salad is not just a band. It’s a vision of what music can become when human artistry and artificial intelligence unite as equal creative partners.
What is Fret Salad?
The folks over at Wikipedia define a salad as “a dish consisting of mixed ingredients.” That’s really the concept behind Fret Salad. This is a band created from today’s technology and mixing in different guitar styles and sounds to create something a little different. Mixing human musicians with AI musicians.
The Age of AI
Society is entering a phase where “Artificial Intelligence” agents will be taking over responsibilities in our lives and completing tasks once done by humans. Music has already and will continue to be impacted by these forces. Fret Salad is a recognition that these AI agents can be ongoing contributing members of a musical group.
A New Kind of Band
To many, this is a totally new model. At Dictionary.com, a band is “a company of persons or, sometimes, animals or things, joined, acting, or functioning together.” Certainly Fret Salad meets that definition and the functioning band gains from each of its members, both human and software-based. This is who Fret Salad is.
THE TECHNOLOGY
One Human. Infinite Possibilities.
Fret Salad is also a demonstration of what one human can do with today’s music-making technologies. All of the musical soundscapes on this album were created using Logic Pro’s sound libraries and installed plug-ins. The songs’ composition and guitars were human-generated and the studio versions created by adding session musicians resident in the Logic Pro software. Future versions of Fret Salad will include other AI musicians and singers. Stay tuned!
